SBD Australia Cup 2024 Spectator Information
The SBD Australia Cup is set to be an event like no other ever hosted in Australia. In 2024, the inaugural edition of this competition will see 24 of the top male and female powerlifting athletes in Australia go head-to-head, not only within their weight classes but also across their entire category. The stage is set for an intense battle of strength with bragging rights and cash prizes on offer.
This event will be available to watch live in person or streamed here via YouTube, allowing fans across the country to join in on the excitement. Read on for all the essential details, including scoring, prize money, and attendance information.
How the Scoring Works
The SBD Australia Cup uses a scoring system to level the playing field across different weight classes. The system calculates each lifter’s total as a percentage of the current Australian Powerlifting Alliance record for their weight class. This way, lifters aren’t just competing within their own class.
Example:
Competitor A’s weight class total record: 500kg
Competitor A’s lift total: 550kg
Score: 110 points (110% of the record)
Competitor B’s weight class total record: 800kg
Competitor B’s lift total: 750kg
Score: 93.75 points (93.75% of the record)
Prize Money
The athletes won’t just be competing for bragging rights and a trophy—they’ll also have a chance to walk away with prize money. Here’s what’s on the line:
For each Australian record broken: $150
First Place (Female & Male): $1500
Second Place (Female & Male): $750
Third Place (Female & Male): $500
This high-stakes competition is sure to push the athletes to their limits as they strive for personal bests and national records.
